Red Velvet Cake

½ cup butter
1½ cups white sugar
2 eggs
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
¾ teaspoon red food coloring (gel)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk
2½ cups sifted all-purpose flour
1½ teaspoons baking soda
1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar


Preheat oven to 175 degrees C. Grease two round pans put aside. In a large mixing bowl, add butter and sugar. Beat until soft and fluffy

Add eggs one after another, continue beating until fluffy and aerated

In another bowl, add buttermilk, cocoa powder, salt, red food coloring and vanilla extract. Mix well

Add the buttermilk mixture to the batter, alternating with the flour. Mix until well incorporated

In a small bowl/ glass, add vinegar and baking soda. Gently fold into cake batter

Pour batter into greased pan/pans. Bake in preheated oven until well cooked, about 30-40 minutes. Cool cake completely

Frost cake layers with cooked frosting as needed

      You need 1 cup milk and 1 tablespoon lemon juice or white vinegar. Just mix the milk and lemon juice or vinegar, let is sit for 5 minutes or until the milk starts to curdle and becomes acidic
